(written by Eugene Moreau)
What inspires a couple to pack their life into a few suitcases, take two young children and move from one hemisphere to another? Not only that, but to make the decision to pull up roots and travel on the back of a ‘seed-thought’ that was dropped in the middle of the night during a time of personal pain and confusion, when family relationships were stretched and marital unity struggled.
Do you know what a seed-thought is? It’s one of those thoughts that kinda hits you from nowhere and consumes you. You don’t know where it came from but you can’t ignore it. That’s a seed-thought. These thoughts often change our lives, and this is what happened to Phil. When this thought hit him and didn’t go away, it changed his family forever.
When Phil reached out to me in 2008 and shared his seed-thought, which I came to eventually describe as their ‘adventure’, I distinctly remember thinking to myself that he had lost his mind. From where I sat, this man was living the life most of us was striving to live. He had a couple of businesses, growing property investments, significant community influence, a beautiful wife and two adorable children. Along with that he had a bucket-load of ambition! I asked myself the question, “How could a man with several businesses and a reputation for achieving whatever he sets his mind to, just pack up, take his young family and leave for another country?” Of course, like a lot of people, I only saw the surface. What I did not see or know was the ‘behind the scenes’ view. As I’m often fond of saying, that’s not my story to tell, it’s Phil’s to tell and he does this so well in Chapter One.
Here’s what I know about seed-thoughts… they will not be ignored or pushed into the back of the mind by courageous people. Seed-thoughts demand a proper hearing and a response. This thought that dropped into Phil Strong’s mind while sitting alone in a motel room in America was simple, straight to the point and defied logic;
“Bring your family to America. It’s time to rebuild your family.”
